How To Fix Avast 5, Unsecured Status

Avast 5 is my trusted antivirus. I started using it after failing form almost every free antivirus.

OK! So this morning when I opened my computer I noticed that Avast icon in the tool bar has red x mark. First impression is Avast is not working so I double clicked the icon then Avast application opened.

The application suggests clicking the “FIX NOW” button to fix the problem but when I do that, nothing happens. I also tried using “Start program” to no avail.

To my desperation I downloaded new copy of Avast 5 and installed. Old version is to be uninstalled good thing that it will automatically handled during installation of new version. Registration is needed so I re-resitered it everything was back to normal.

Before the issue I remember doing the following:

1. Windows update
2. Windows driver update
3. Check HDD for error using chkdsk /r
4. Defrag HDD

 I am really not sure if it has something to do with the error anyway.
